Thomas Jefferson Chapter

Before TV, before the Internet, before streaming, there was radio.  During radio's heyday, 1930-1960, radio dramas filled the air and captured the imagination of America.  Some of these, of course, dealt with the people and events of the American Revolution.  It's interesting to listen to these programs, not only for the content, but also because they are "history within history."  You hear the interpretation of events though the perspective of Americans from a different era.  Some parts can seem a bit corny to our twenty-first century ears, but the programs are unapologetically patriotic.  They are also subject to character interpretation common during the period, which may sound awkward to a modern listener. To quote the writing of L.P. Hartley, “The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.”  These recording are a great way to interest young people in the events and personalities that formed our great nation.

You can use the "Search Audio" function at the top of the column at right to search for programs by title or keyword, and the blue "Radio Series Menu" just below below the search will display programs by series.  Each audio title can be played by using the controls on the audio player that is right below the description of each title.  To download a title to your computer, click the "DOWNLOAD AUDIO FILES" link in the blue "Radio Series Menu."  More audio will be added as time permits, so check back often.  All programs are in the public domain, and some have been edited for content.
